The second MVR tour to Cambridge Springs for Dinner theater was not as popular as the first attracting 5 couples this time, but MVR members don’t need a crowd to have a good time; the group had a pleasant two day excursion.  Starting from Kings on Rte 19 and the caravan made a soggy sojourn to Meadeville where the sun came out and blessed the time at Cambridge Springs and for those who went on to Presque Isle for fun and sight seeng. Yes there was a pilgramage to a gambling facility, but it seems all made it back to the hotel early on the evening of the 3rd.  The weather and the prospect of antique cars in a casino parking lot means no old iron made the trip.  That said,  breakdowns and what has become a MVR tradition -“the rescue”, are not in the saga of this tour.

The dinner theater play was The Andrew Brother” and was chalk full songs from the WW II era.   After teh show, 4 of the the 5 couples went on to check into accomodatons in Erie and then on to the gambling night-life.  I hear all were back in the motel by 9:30  –PM.  That’s OK, it was a long day for all.

After the dinner theatre at Cambridge Springs, the McCunes, Stangrooms, Redshaws and Maurers left for the Erie Casino and Race Track. The caravan was led by Frances McCune’s sister Alice and husband Gino. They led us to the new Bayfront Motel. After checking in, most of the group went to the casino and some watched the horses. The gamblers actually came home as winners, but not all were so lucky.

Arising to a beautiful morning, we ate breakfast at the motel. Our destination was Presque Isle Park. The 10 mile ride through the park took us past many beautiful beaches to the light house on the point. We tried walking in the sand and stopped to view a number of houses on barges in a small bay, each with their own attached boat.
By 11 a.m. we were headed south on Route 19 until we stopped at the famous Rachel’s Roadhouse south of Mercer for lunch. The original plans were to visit the Grove City outlets, but we ran out of time.

At 4 p.m. we visited The Space Center in Zelienople to view an outstanding collection of 18 post war Mopars. Each auto was more perfect than the previous. All cars were meticulously restored. The interesting part is that most were very low production muscle cars. The oldest was a 1957 Plymouth Fury with the newest being a 1970 Dodge Dart. The host is preparing to ship about 10 cars to his home in Arizona where he can drive them every month of the year.

By 5 pm. the McCunes were observed heading toward Monongahela in their 1992 Ford Mustang.

Monday, the group toured Presque Isle park and dabbled in some of the pleasantries as you can see by the photos.  (contirbution by Bill Maurer)
