Mystery Tour – June 28, 2014
It ain’t a mystery if you know where you are going!
August 28th was a picture perfect day -warm, bright sunshine, and a natural for a day tour in your favorite piece of rolling history. It started out with most participants having breakfast at the Eat’n Park in Monongahela. You see, some had to start earlier than others. A Model T ride to the the start point from Uniontown is not the same as in a 50’s Mercury, or from Belle Vernon in an E-Type Jag, but a good sized gathering was on hand for the departure to the farm for exotic animals, or so even members of the Board thought. The mystery was a mystery ’til the last minute. Our actual destination had changed to the Washington Trolley Museum.
We were off and the watches and cell phone clocks no longer guided our trip. It would take what time it would. We would wend our way through the countryside taking nearly every esoteric by-way available. Pretty day, leaf shrouded roads bordered with interesting scenery, and no hurry – what could be better?
At the Museum, we parked under trees at a central location, set out our chairs and enjoyed the show of the day …a parade of vintage trolleys along with commentary about their evolution. One fellow traveler’s Mustang was running lame, but Skip and Russ analysed the problem (mis-adjusted carburetor float) and had the little pony running like a stallion in no time.
After taking in the sights, riding trolleys, and touring the museum, the tour set off for Solomon’s Seafood and Grille where all had a leisurely and delicious meal. The rest of the trip was the individual’s call. All cars and passengers made it to their home ports with no reported or undue excitement.
